I have had recipes pinned for smoothies for like, 3 years.
Last Christmas I asked for a stick blender for the sole purpose of making smoothies{and this one really awesome sounding broccoli and cheese soup- but I digress}and got it.
I just opened it last week.
#finally
I’ve been wanting to get more leafy greens and good fats into my diet{specifically spinach or kale, and coconut oil or avocado} so I decided that the fastest and tastiest route to that goal would be a daily smoothie.
Initially I tried it for breakfast, but as you all know well, I’m a morning latte gal. And well, when I had a smoothie for breakfast I didn’t want a latte. That’s just a no go. So, I decided to swap out my lunch for a smoothie instead and that has worked SO much better.
Latte and toast in the morning, smoothie for lunch, and then a regular dinner.
One of the things that surprised me the most was how filling they are. I thought I would be starving an hour later, but really it kept me feeling satisfied from lunch{around noon} to dinner{around 6}.
Bonus: Abigail loves my “smoofys” too.
My first recipe was pretty good:
1C frozen blueberries
1C fresh spinach
1C skim milk
A few scoops of vanilla greek yogurt
A smidge of honey
It definitely wasn’t as sweet as I expected it to be, but it wasn’t unbearable. I made it a few days in a row.
My second recipe was way better:
1C fresh spinach
1/2C mixed frozen berries
1/2C oats
1/2C vanilla greek yogurt
1/2C almond milk
1 Tbsp honey
{If I have a ripe avocado I’ve tossed in a half or so and it is fabulous!!}
Now THIS smoothie. This one was a winner.
I love the oats in it and I loved the almond milk. I’d never tried it before, but the subtle nut flavor is divine. I really enjoyed adding it to my drink.
A few ingredients I am wanting to try out still:
Wheat Grass
Kale
Maple Syrup
Powdered Peanut Butter
Apples
Grapes
Peaches
Pear
Have you made smoothies before? Do you have any tried and true recipes? I’d love for you to share them!
I am a let's just through a bunch of stuff in there and see how it tastes kind of gal. I never measure so they never taste exactly the same. I do love adding frozen banana chunks into them and I also love adding oatmeal as well. I also stock up when strawberries are cheap chop them up and freeze them to help save some $.
And I think I know exactly which broccoli cheese soup recipe you may be talking about and if it is the same one that I am thinking of, it is FABULOUS!
I need to try this out – i've been making the same smoothie for like 6 months! I did just swap my spinach for kale – but you can't use as much of it! Here's what I do: 1/2cup mixed berries, 1/4 cup peaches or apples, 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt, 1 scoop protein powder, 1/2 cup water, 1/2cup spinach or a little less if using kale. My daughter loves it too – I even have to give her a straw cup of her own for it! And I agree smoothie for lunch is way better than breakfast!
A smoothy sounds incredible right about now. Lol A recipe I enjoy is Sprouts, not from concentrate, orange juice Frozen mixed berries 1 banana And spinach Eye ball the amount you want of each.
YUM! Both of these sound delicious! I have a magic bullet that I use for smoothies and I absolutely love it! I made one once that had cold coffee, almond milk and PB2 (I think) in it and it made a delicious breakfast smoothie. I'll have to find the recipe and send it to you!
Making them to replace lunch is a great idea, sometimes I'm just not in the mood for something like this early in the morning.
