My best friend Lauren and I met the summer before 3rd grade started.
I moved in across the street from her into a brown house with a burgundy door. She lived in a blue house with a blue door. We could walk across the street from each other and be together.
And together we were.
We would spend at least every weekend together. Starting Friday night and ending Sunday night. We saw each other at school{same teacher in 4th grade!}, rode the bus together in Jr. High even though I was homeschooled by then{I still went for orchestra in the mornings}, cheered simultaneously for different schools, oh yeah, and I introduced her to her husband{when we were like, 15}.
If only I could blow this picture up bigger so you could bask in it’s glory.
The Girl’s “Culb”
This could be a post in and of itself, but I’ll succinctly say, Lauren made this sign so I blame her entirely for it’s spelling 😉
The duck face! Before it was called “the duck face!”
Selfies! Before camera phones!
Anyway, ALL of that to say, we have a history. A long one. And that history involves enormous amounts of time and weekends spent together.
So you can imagine my unimaginable bliss when we got to have our very first sleepover together WITH OUR CHILDREN.
Saturday night we were standing in my kitchen. I looked at her and said, “Don’t you find it so strange that we each just put our daughter to bed….and now we’re just going to hang out?” Like, we’re bona fide adults. With husbands, mortgages, and children. When did that happen?
{Answer: Within the last 7 years}
Baby Brecken napped on my couch and it made my life.
Grammy invented this game recently. It’s called Abigail hamburger and it requires completely annihilating my living room.
And yes, she is naked.
I got to snuggle this sweet little thing over and over. I got to hold her while she slept. I got to play with her when she was awake. I got to pass her off when she started fussing.
One of the more hilarious quotes from Abigail this weekend, when she really wanted Auntie Lauren to play with her:
“Auntie Lauren, could you go put your baby down?” or “Could you go give her to my Mom and play with me?”
As absolutely sweet as this is, I had to bribe her with peanut butter M&M’s to get the shot.
This was Abigail’s first time holding a baby…ever. Ever ever. Truthfully, we really aren’t around very many babies so she has never had the opportunity before now.
She didn’t mind it really, she just really wanted those M&M’s.
Oh yeah. And she is wearing a swimsuit on TOP of her pajama pants.

Amazingly, as good as Lauren and I were at taking selfies pre-iPhone days, we failed miserably at getting a picture of the two of us together from this weekend.
But that’s okay. Because there will be many, many more BFF + daughter’s weekends in our future.
oh how i love those flashback pictures. they're seriously awesome!! especially the CAMERA one. i mean that's what we had to do before cell phone cameras!!
This is awesome! I have a friend like this that I met in the third grade. We had our babies two days apart and that was amazing. But now she lives in Kansas and I'm in Wisconsin. :-/ no sleepovers here. Lol
First, this 'I got to pass her off when she started fussing.' hahaha. Yup. Second, love that you had a sleepover! With your daughters. It is so nice to spend time like that with your friend and their kid and your kid, like adults! I feel that way all the time, when did we stop being in high school and start having kids?! whoa, time.
Aww! Now that's fun! It's almost unbelievable when us and the friends we were crazy kids with grow up too. This weekend we're going to go visit a friends who I've known since I was 15–and his wife and daughter. Two friends I've known since I was 10 got married last year…the problem with my friends is that they're all spread out all over the place. How inconvenient!
Aww I love love love this! You've been friends for so long and now eventually your children will be best friends too!
This is so cute! I love that you both have been best friends for so long and are experience kids together now, so sweet!
