When I was growing up, my Mimi and Pa took me on a week long fishing trip to Minnesota every summer. My Pa would go fish in the wee hours of the morning while we still slept in the cabin, and then he would take me out on the boat in the afternoon to lazily catch what we could.
One year, when I was in grade school, I attended a fishing derby with my best friend, Lauren and her family. I refused to participate because I proudly declared, “I ONLY fish from a boat.”
Almost two decades later and I still haven’t lived down that comment.
In an effort to keep my daughter from turning into the absolute princess that I {apparently} was, I’m letting her learn to fish from land 😉
Grandpa Monty spent a good bit of time getting her fishing rod all ready to go. Then he would cast her line out into the water for her and show Abigail how to properly reel it back in.
But, don’t let these pictures deceive you. I took them all in about a 30 second span.
Reality is, all she really wanted to do was “feed the fish” aka, throw giant rocks into the lake.
And, because I’m a first time semi helicopter parent, I told her she couldn’t do it. Because all I was having were visions of her flinging herself into the lake….refusing to release a rock as big as her head. Aye carumba.
Her true level of interest in fishing displayed above.
So really, maybe on second thought, we should get her out on a boat?
Awe this warms my hear so. What great memories you have and she will grownup to have. Even if it's just memories of her and grandpa feeding fish, haha.
My grandma used to take me fishing. I loved it – she would put the worm on the hook and all I had to do was cast the line. Love those memories! Abigail will love these memories too, rock throwing and all. 🙂
How cute are these pics!!? Precious! My grandparents live in Minnesota, though I don't have any fishing memories 🙂 http://www.floralandfudge.blogspot.com

Haha! I love how taking a bunch of pictures in very short amount of time can paint a totally different story than reality does.
Adorable I am sure whatever time she did spend fishing was still special to Grandpa.

So, so sweet. Love the pictures! Even if she only stayed interested for 30 seconds 😉
Barefoot fishing! In a skirt! This is why I love her…
These photos are so precious. I haven't fished since I was a little girl. These will be great memories for her!
These are the sweetest photos!!! You need to frame one of these and give them to Grandpa. He would cherish it, I'm sure! What a great memory!
I love these pictures! I'm sure it was a very special day for Grandpa!!!
This is so sweet. I know Thomas is looking forward to taking Ellie out fishing and his uncle got her a rod for her birthday…I guess she's destined
