It has been a while since I’ve tossed together a fun “about me” post of sorts and I realize that there are a lot of new faces around here! Sometimes I casually mention something, assuming that everyone knows it about me, and then I’ll get a comment reminding me that they don’t! So I thought it would be fun to do a little Courtney refresher 🙂 Nothing super important, just fun things that you might not know about me!
1. I have been a Christian my entire life. I’m a third generation Christian and have grown up in church my whole life. I grew up in non-denominational and baptist churches, but now attend a PCA(Presbyterian Church In America) church.
2. I went to public school up until 6th grade, started homeschooling at that point, went to community college in 11th and 12th grade, and then completed cosmetology school shortly after I graduated.
3. Jim and I met when I was 12 and he was 15. We started “talking” (Read: AOL Instant Messenger) shortly after I turned 14.
4. A brief Jim and Courtney timeline:
First talking in October of 2002
Courtney moves to Virginia in the summer of 2003 and our long distance relationship begins
Courtney moves back to Kansas City in December of 2005
We get engaged March of 2006
Married in December of 2006
5. My best friend is Lauren. We met when my family moved across the street from her house the summer before we started 3rd grade.
6. I’ve played the viola since 5th grade.
7. I worked at Starbucks for 2 years while in high school and cosmetology school. The addiction began then and has yet to let up.
8. My go to drink(should you ever need to order me one) is a grande vanilla latte with whip instead of foam.
9. I’ve lived in Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, Missouri, and Virginia.
10. I’ve been a Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan since 1996. The world series this last fall was basically the greatest thing ever.
11. I’m 5 7 and wear a 7.5 shoe.
12. I’ve never wanted to be anything but a stay at home mama and have always wanted lots and lots of babies(although I always thought I’d be a boy mom!)
13. I can still recite every single line from “A Walk To Remember” I have watched it so many times, and Lauren and I broke my tv with the built in VCR by watching “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” one too many times back to back.
14. My middle name is Nichole, spelled with a superfluous H. My mom wanted to name me Nichole but didn’t want anyone to call me “Nikki” so they went for the no nickname name option of Courtney instead.
15. I worked in a hair salon for 5 years before becoming a stay at home mom and never colored my hair until after I’d quit.
16. I love terrible tv. Reality tv, teenager shows, supernatural shows. Love em.
17. I’m a horrible athlete. I’ve never really played sports. I tried soccer and basketball when I was a kid and it is embarrassing to think about. I was a competitive cheerleader all through high school, which was fun, and I was pretty good, but I had to work really hard to be halfway decent.
18. I have the unique and special ability of turning a 5 minute simple and easy craft into an hour long one complete with tears and hot glue gun burns.
19. I have the unrefined palette of a 10 year old child. I like to eat “grown up” foods too, but if I had to choose, I’d pick macaroni and cheese, cereal, and pizza any day.
20. I don’t really like chocolate and I hate frosting/icing. Give me vanilla or a salty snack anyday.
21. We don’t have cable so whenever I go to my parents house I totally binge watch every HGTV and TLC show available.
22. I’m a huge, huge supporter of natural, intervention free childbirth and breastfeeding. I try not to be preachy and sanctimonious about it, but I have STRONG opinions when it comes to those two things.
23. It took us a year to get pregnant with Abigail, it took us over 3 years of trying(including a year of hardcore infertility treatment) to finally get pregnant with Mabel. I am about as well versed in the IF/TTC/2IF world as a person can be.
24. Whenever you see a cool blog graphic or image on my blog, chances are, Jim made it for me. I can’t do photo shop ANYTHING and he is basically the master. Luckily he reads and loves my blog so he is always nice enough to help me 🙂
25. Have I mentioned where we live yet? Oh yeah, we live in Joplin, MO. We travel a lot because we don’t have any family here, so we’re regularly going to Kansas City(Jim’s parents) and Phoenix(my parents) to visit, but the rest of the time we’re loving and living life in Southwest Missouri!

Too cute:) Loved getting to know more about you, sweet girl! Just makes me love you more:)
I loved this! I didn't know most of this stuff! I knew you lived in Joplin and that you used to work at Starbucks. Lol
Amen to the teenager shows!!! Also LOVE A Walk to Remember! Especially the soundtrack!
I love these posts. I should really do one! I had always been wondering when you went to cosmetology school.
You never seem preachy about natural childbirth & breastfeeding to me! In fact, I think you could up your game! 😉 I am a huge advocate of all things gentle parenting & breastfeeding that I want to scream it from the rooftops. I try to control myself but I think it's nice to offer a typically different opinion that what you see all over blog land. I never thought I would be blogging about nursing my 2 year old but I'm so glad I did!
Loved the interesting facts! Where did you live when you were in Indiana?
These are some of my favorite posts to read!!
I could forego chocolate and frosting (gross) for the rest of my life, too.
It's so sweet how long you and Jim have known each other, and how you started "talking".
Love all of your facts. There is nothing wrong with being preachy about things your passionate about. Sometimes people just don't know the facts and preachy folks have to tell 'em 🙂
Such fun facts! I'd go for mac and cheese or pizza any day, too!
Im super impressed on your natural childbirth skills!!! Whats your secret? With my first I only got to 4cm before crying uncle lol and the second one had the epidural lined up. Im almost thinking if we had a third there wouldnt be any time to get one since each labor has decreased by half (12 hours, then 6 hours) so Im preparing now, just in case 😉
My middle name is Nicole too 🙂 (without the H though). I love Vanilla over Chocolate also!
I love reading random facts about other bloggers and although I knew a lot of this since I've been following for a while, I feel as though I've gotten to know you a bit better!
Fun! I loved reading this! Learned some things I didn't know about you already from reading your blog 🙂
Ahhh! Obsessed with that AIM fun fact. Omg. Yes. Also…a walk to remember?! I love you even more if possible. Can we talk about how the soundtrack still rocks to that too?!
I love that your husband does your graphics! That's a fun fact. 😉 Also, I didn't know you went to cosmetology school! Fun. I toyed around with that idea in middle school, but never went.
ok, my calculations suck, how old were you when you got married?
LOVE a walk to remember.
I am not a mother (duh) but I have pretty strong opinions and views on natural childbirth and breastfeeding as well. who knows if I will get to do either when (if) it's my turn.
ok I LOVE HGTV but we don't have cable either. have you heard of sling tv? we just got it (it came out earlier this month) and its $20 a month and i think right now they are doing a special where if you sign up for 3 months you get a free amazon fire stick which means you stick it in your tv so you don't have to watch it on your computer (i don't like watching live tv on my computer). so sign up for a free trial, see if you like it (other channels too, we got it for HGTV and ESPN) and then cancel that trial, if you like it sign up again (using a different email address lol) to get the free fire stick. or whatever. my obsession with HGTV needed this in my life.
I never thought you have been preachy about natural childbirth and breastfeeding. I have super strong convictions in that arena as well, I try not to harp on it too much but I often just want to scream it aloud! In fact, my husband and I were on our way to becoming Bradley Method certified prior to getting knocked up again. 😉 Definitely something I want to continue to purse in the future. Likely much later though. Also, do you still play the viola?
Do you still play viola?! I've played violin since the 4th grade and play every week at church in our worship band 🙂 woo orchestra!
Wow I have a TON in common with you! That's so fun! 😀
Ok I seriously feel like we are the same person! So fun to learn more about you. I ALWAYS thought that I would be a boy mom too but girls are so much fun 🙂
LOL to girls just wanna have fun. What were we thinking? 🙂
Fun list! Mac + cheese is a staple lunch at our house 🙂 You are a lady of many talents – viola, teaching, hair and coffee!! Hope you're getting caught up on your shows and LOVING Disneyland.
It was nice to learn more about you!
I could easily eat macaroni and cheese every single day!
Whip cream instead of foam… GENIUS!
So I promise I'm not crazy but I saw your husband and thought he looked familiar. You said KC and then finally Joplin. I live very close to Joplin… I'm glad I came over on this post because it helped me learn something about you. btw, you live in MO, do you know about the http://www.missouriwomenbloggers.com webpage?
Thank you for being a lovely, inspiring Christian woman on the internet. We need more of those.

I love 5.7 and 7.5 that made me smile! 🙂 Also AOL instant messenger – oh memories! Love fun get to know you posts! OH and crafting? Yeah your description sounds about right for me too. Thank god for pre-made and planned foam craft kits or my kid would be so sad!
