This last Saturday, the miracle of miracles finally happened. I walked inside and shopped at IKEA. The woman, the blogger, the tight wad, the decorator, the mother, the minimalist, all of these things that I am, practically passed out in delight at the wonder and magnificence of actually getting to go and actually getting to experience the delight that is IKEA.
I thought I would share with y’all what my experience was like, what I was shopping for, and of course, what I bought! (This trip. Ya feel me?)
A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine and I laid plans to take a girls day trip to Kansas City to go to IKEA. We both read The Nesting Place recently, we’re both pinntastic, and we both love to decorate our homes in a cost effective way. SO, naturally, we knew that we needed to get ourselves to IKEA. Luckily for us, an IKEA opened last year in Kansas City, so a mere twoish hours away, all of this could be ours.
Once we settled on a date we let the planning begin. We started shopping lists, we read the IKEA hacks, we read posts about how to shop IKEA, how to stay on budget in IKEA, how to not get lost inside IKEA, what to buy at IKEA, and on and on. Needless to say, we were prepared.
So the morning of, I posted one last picture and posed the question for any last words of advice.
Lastly, everyone told me that I needed to get a cinnamon roll and a $1 frozen yogurt cone at the end of my trip. But honestly, I was half starved by the end and only wanted lunch! I devoured a Chipotle chicken bowl a few minutes after this picture was taken and don’t regret that decision at all. That being said, I really do look forward to the next time we go when I will most definitely hit up those delicious treats! (I mean, they had an entire pan of those rolls for sale for $4. That’s like, a dream come true)
Overall, my first experience was great. I found and saw almost everything I was looking for, I didn’t blow the budget, I didn’t over extend myself, I had a great time with my friend, and ultimately, I really really loved IKEA itself. I’m SO happy that we finally made it up there and I may or may not have already started a “wish list” of things to grab the next time I get to go!
Have you ever been to an IKEA before? What do you think?
