You can read about Abigail’s swim lesson escapades from last year: HERE!
Well, Miss Abigail finished up this year’s round of swim lessons yesterday and I have to say that I am just SO incredibly proud of her. And also so thankful for all of the time and encouragement Jim has put in during bath times and visits to the pool between last year and this to help boost her confidence, reduce her fear of the water(and getting her hair + face wet), and helping her be willing to learn and grow.
Our local parks and rec offers three swim lesson sessions throughout the summer for the low, low price of $35 for two weeks of lessons. Well well worth the investment! This year we chose the last session of the summer and had fantastic weather- we only had to reschedule one day due to weather and the class sizes were noticeably smaller than the middle of July session we did last year. Which was a win!
We didn’t know any of the kids in this sessions lessons, but we remembered some of the guards from last year. And some of them remembered Abigail too! Which….good thing? Bad thing? Whichever, we’ll take it 😉
They started out every lesson discussing basic swimming info and then after they came and asked their parents for permission to get into the pool they would spend the next 30 minutes or so learning! By the end of lessons she was floating on her back, using goggles, a snorkel, going under water, jumping off the side into the water, properly using the ladder, kicking, using her different arm positions, and even moving/swimming a bit under water. She learned SO much this year and it is awesome! I can’t wait to see her at the beach in a few weeks.
For the last day of class, after the kids tested out and passed their current level, they got to have a free play day. Anything they wanted in the pool and could use all of the slides.
Miss Abigail could have totally gone down the big slide all by herself but she managed to con the cute lifeguard into taking her down every single time instead. She managed to snag the most handsome one there so, I guess I should say I’m proud? Girl got moves.
After she was all big slided out and done making Mr. Lifeguard cater to her every whim, she spent some time with the big goggles on swimming under water constantly. I barely saw her above water! She would get so excited and squeal and shout, “I’m swimming!! I’m swimming!!” It was awesome.
For the first week of lessons Grammy was here so this little bit and I stayed home and out of the heat, but for week two she got to tag along. Luckily it wasn’t too, too hot so we managed okay.
This is basically what she thought of sisters lessons.
And that concludes another great year of swim lessons! It makes me so excited to think about how much more she will grow and learn by next summer.
