May 12, 2016
Mother’s Day Weekend 2016 started for me on the Thursday night before. For the last five years Jim and his friend, Dave, have participated in Joplin’s 48 hour film festival. They get their rules and the clock starts on Thursday night at 6pm and goes until Saturday night at 6pm. I took the girls with me to the coffee shop they were at to brainstorm ideas on Thursday night and then after that we were on our own.
Jim and Dave created a movie and I took care of little people.
On Friday afternoon I loaded up our van and took the girls up to Grandpa Monty and Grandma Jenny’s house where we would be spending Mother’s Day weekend. Both girls slept in the car on the way up(holla!) and we got there well before dinnertime. Jim would be joining us once the film festival was over, sometime Saturday night.
I’m pretty sure Abigail played outside 99% of our time there. She jumped on the trampoline, played on the swing set, ran around with the animals, helped Grandma and Grandpa plant in their garden, and all sorts of other outside things.
Mabel got to try out the bouncy trampoline for the first time this visit and she loved it! She loved crawling around on it and gently bouncing. It was so cute!
That sun hat was Abigail’s, so basically, I’m dying by simply looking at these pictures!
On Mother’s Day, Mabel and I had this really sweet, sweet moment. She woke up shortly before midnight so I went in and nursed her and we sat there rocking as the clock turned to 12. I soaked her in and smiled as I thought about our very first Mother’s Day together. It was really precious.
But, well over two hours later when she was still squealing/screaming/crying? It wasn’t quite as sweet anymore.
Basically my biggest request for Mother’s Day was a picture of me with my girls. Mabel and I only got dressed for this picture since we didn’t go to church(because hello up all night), it was literally raining outside when we took it, and Abigail was crying because I’d asked her to pause playing play-doh to come take it. So, this is what we ended up with.
Hashtag real life.
On Sunday evening, we had a wonderful Mother’s Day dinner with tons of family. Then once bedtime rolled around, it was time to get the girls into their PJ’s and drive back home.
On Monday, it was back to reality with a side of unpacking suitcases and extra laundry. But that’s okay! It’s birthday prep week….and also now, Thursday. Only a few more days until the big O-N-E!
