This is a post that I have been meaning to put together for a very, very long time now! I think it must have been back sometime towards the beginning of this year? I had an epiphany.
And the epiphany was something like this: Courtney, (because I was thinking to myself, of course) you are no longer 15 years old. In fact, you are closing in on 30 years old. Because of this, you should probably not be wearing the same makeup and products that you STARTED wearing makeup with….over a decade ago.
And thus, I started “upgrading” and growing up my beauty products.
This isn’t to say that I don’t still buy some of my makeup from Walmart or Target- but I’ve now moved my nearly 30 year old face onto Ulta, Aveda, and Maskara. And I have to say- y’all have noticed. You have commented, asked questions, and passed on lots of compliments to the changes I have been making to my makeup!
So I thought I should actually sit down and share with you the products that I am using NOW and loving.
For years I’ve just been using cheap cover girl powder foundation. Which….worked. But it worked a lot better when I was 20 :p Now I’ve been using Aveda’s Inner Light Mineral Dual Foundation and I seriously love it. You can apply it either wet or dry, but I always use it dry. I can’t recommend this product enough!
I worked in an Aveda salon for years and I wish I could use all of their products like I used to(I can’t, because $$$) but I’m super glad to have worked this foundation back into my daily routine!
In the past, I just used whatever hand me down Mary Kay blush my Mom happened to have stockpiled in her drawer. (lol)
Now, I’m trying out Bare Minerals READY blush. The jury is still out a bit on whether I’ll buy it again in the future(I might try it again but a different color- the one I’m using is a bit too pink…I think?)
I haven’t changed HOW I wear my eye makeup, but I have changed all of the products that I’m using!
In my daily routine I wear eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara.
First I upgraded my eye shadow to the mini Naked2 palette. Then, that made it so my cheap Almay eye liner wouldn’t show up over it(lol), so then I upgraded my eye liner to the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil(and also had to buy the sharpener!). So naturally, I needed fresh mascara as well.
Total impulse buy on my part with these lip paints but I actually really like them and the two colors they are! They are a matte finish- which isn’t always my favorite, so I sometimes toss a gloss over the top.
The biggest and most shocking addition to my new, grown up, makeup routine is filling in my eyebrows.
I joke- but also I’m kind of serious- WHY did no one tell me for…my whole life, that I needed to be filling in my eyebrows? I kind of just thought one day- hey, that seems like something I should probably do. And it has completely changed my face and my look. It is the thing that most people comment on when they ask/talk about my makeup, and the one thing that I now feel like I CAN’T go without.
I literally feel like Medusa in The Rescuers when she peels off her fake eyelashes and takes off her makeup whenever I clean my face now.
My secret weapon? The Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil.
I had to watch a few tutorial videos(I recommend youtube for this!) to learn how to properly line and then fill in my brows, but once I did it a few times I figured out my system for doing it and it wasn’t nearly as scary as the first time.
I remember the very first day I filled them in all I felt like was WOW EYEBROWS. It totally freaked me out how much I felt like it changed the look of my face- but now I feel the opposite! It’s crazy.
Guess who used to never take off her makeup? Like, ever? That’d be me. I also never washed my face(I’m still pretty terrible about that though….) but my skin started super drying out and that made my makeup not look good! So, I found these wipes for a quick and easy way to have a clean slate to work with (most of the time I use this lotion as well) and I’m really glad I discovered these to pair with my new products!
I previously kept all of my makeup in this super tiny travel size bag, but as I added new products to my rotation it wouldn’t hold everything anymore- so I needed a new bag to keep everything contained in. Target for the win- of course!
So, those are most of the products that I am currently using! If you have questions about colors or shades I’d be happy to answer them in the comment section!
