July 8, 2019
Oh, hey! It’s me. And it has been a while. Quite a while, in fact. The longest blogging hiatus that this space has ever seen- which is a lot considering I started writing here back in 2012.
I literally have so much to say (and to share!) that I’m not even sure where to start. But, I knew that I couldn’t just hop back to regular programming without a post specifically dedicated to why exactly there hasn’t been anything here for…..nearly two months. ((yikes))
For starters, obviously, I’m a busy lady. (but also like, who isn’t?) With three little ones to care for, a rapidly growing Young Living business (which I loveeeee love love freaking love and will tell you all about sometime), parents who just moved in with us, summer trips and activities- like 4x a week swimming lessons, trips to the lake, Arizona, Nashville, Kansas City, and more- it hasn’t left me with a lot of time to document in this space.
Which leads me to sharing a bit of what it really takes to run a blog like this. Most people have NO idea what goes into running a website (particularly if it is one that is monetized).
For a simple recap/family post, it requires me to:
sort through/organize/select photos
resize/edit for blog post
upload photos again
include related links
sort, tag, set featured images, edit post previews, and schedule
THEN, once it posts I have to remember to share/promote/link again. That is just for a simple family post.
If it is sponsored content or something evergreen that contains affiliate links, then, I have to do all of that AND:
make sure all of my post instructions/contractual obligations have been fulfilled (in addition to having submitted my content beforehand for approval)
that all of my legal disclosures have been spelled out and accounted for
that all of my links are correct, open in new tabs, and are properly denoted as “no follow”
that pinterest graphics have been created, resized appropriately, and keywords added
that my post is SEO (search engine optimization) optimized so that my post can be found via google search
that my social media posts (this means, IG/FB/Twitter/Pinterest) are written/queued up/shared regularly
And, that is just kind of scratching the surface.
SO, as you can see, it takes A LOT of time to write quality content (and even not so quality, lol). Most of the time, I get so far as uploading my edited photos, I get them sorted into the correct folders annnnd that’s it.
As of right now, I currently have TWENTY drafted posts from May, June, & July just sitting and waiting to be put together and published….and I just don’t have the time to do it all!
I love my blog. I mean, I LOVE MY BLOG. I have worked so, so hard to build a community here (and on social media!) and have successfully made meaningful, lifelong relationships because of it. I am so proud of the way I have been able to document our family and to share our life and our story with others. I will always show up here and share because oh my gosh- did I mention that I LOVE MY BLOG?
That being said, if you really want to follow along and keep up with us, right now- it’s probably best to follow along on Instagram and be my friend on Facebook! Because I can take and edit a photo and share a little piece of my heart there every day.
ALSO, everyone claims to still enjoy reading blogs- but does anyone?? I feel like no? Or maybe that’s just because no one really writes like they used to anymore? I don’t even know.
Anyway- I had some time this weekend to do a little bit of blog work (enjoy my new profile picture LOL) and have FOUR new posts queued up for this week. Hopefully it isn’t two months until I get back to finish the rest of my drafted posts, but, if it is- enjoy this week for the throwback vibes it provides.
I love you guys, and am so thankful you still show up here to hang out with me. (Or over on social media!)
